My name is Ms. Melissa Barksdale. I grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and attended Jackson Public Schools throughout my entire K-12 experience. My college home was “Thee” Jackson State University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Social Science Education following in the footsteps of my mother and many other family members in teaching. I began my career in Tchula, Mississippi at S.V. Marshall High School, then found my love for middle school at Woolfolk Middle School in Yazoo City, Mississippi. During my time teaching, I decided to expand my education by obtaining my Master of Science in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Walden University. I continued my career by spend 6 years working in Merdian, Mississippi at Magnolia Middle School. Two years ago, I had decided to come back to Jackson where Peeples Middle School is my home. I have dedicated my life to teaching Social Studies to create a generation of global citizens who will affect change in our world.
