Below is the list of required summer reading books for the International Baccalaureate programs at Jim Hill High School.

IBMYP

• 9^th grade: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
• 10^th grade: Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Additional Information – Summer Reading Assignment – due the second day of class.

• After reading the novel, respond to the following three questions.
  • Identify the source of conflict in the story, and how this conflict shapes the story through the character’s/ characters’ response.
  • How did the main character change over the course of the story and what causes the changes?
  • Identify 5 key moments in the story and how they relate to the story’s theme and character development.

IBDP

• 11^th grade: Siddartha by Herman Hesse AND How To Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster
• 12^th grade: King Lear by William Shakespeare

Additional Information – Summer Reading Assignment – due the first Friday of class.
